Queen’s University in association with the University of Leeds and ERP Environment are pleased to announce the 2008 conference. The conference has evolved to reflect the current corporate environment and seeks research papers from a wide field under corporate responsibility.
Research in corporate responsibility and sustainability today looks back on a tradition spanning several decades. Especially in recent years the interest in corporate responsibility and sustainability has accelerated at an unprecedented pace. In some sectors or regions corporate responsibility has now reached the mainstream.
Some researchers see this as an opportunity - others are concerned. We might argue that mainstreaming corporate responsibility and sustainability is a precondition for research to be effective. That sustainability can only be delivered if the tools and techniques, the concepts and models, the theories and doctrines are rolled out across the largest possible spread of companies, organizations and regions. However, it might be argued that mainstreaming endangers the effectiveness of corporate sustainability with a focus on incremental change finding more widespread acceptance by the market. Yet some would argue that more radical change is required from an ecological and social point of view.
We welcome research from all fields of corporate responsibility and sustainability. We challenge all participants to consider how their findings can become effective despite or through the mainstream. On the one hand there can be great value in research that adopts mainstream views and techniques, ensuring transferability across many sectors, regions and stakeholder groups. On the other hand research that challenges mainstream orthodoxies and breaks new ground ensures that corporate responsibility and sustainability is more than mere green window dressing.

A keynote speech will start the PhD Workshop on afternoon of 7 September. All PhD students will be provided with feedback from a panel of experienced PhD student supervisors in the field.
The conference committee will review all papers presented and award two prizes for the CRRC best overall paper and the CRRC best PhD paper at the conference dinner on 8 September. Criteria for the selection process are contribution to the research field, quality of the research, innovativeness, and diversity of views.
Initial abstracts of a maximum of 400 words should be emailed to abstracts@crrconference.org by 30 May 2008. Files should be sent in MS Word or PDF format, and the file name should be first author’s surname. Please include names, affiliations and contact details of authors. Authors will be notified of acceptance or not by 15 June 2008.
Submissions are electronic. Participants are invited to submit papers no later than 15 August 2008. Papers will not be accepted unless speaker(s) have registered for the conference.
Papers should not exceed 7,500 words including references. Manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with the 5th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. A word template for the preparation of manuscripts can be found in the “downloads” section of the CRRC website.
References should also be cited in accordance with the 5th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. This reference style is for example used by Business & Society. Authors have the option of submitting their paper for simultaneous publication in the Queen’s Discussion Papers on Corporate Responsibility Research. There is a simplified review process for this paper series. In addition, authors of papers accepted for presentation can submit their paper for a special issue of Management Research News on the best papers of CRRC 2008.
There is a limited number of promising researcher bursaries available. These bursaries cover the conference fee. The bursaries will be granted based on the quality of the abstracts submitted. Participants from developing countries are especially encouraged to apply for these bursaries.
